Once your international flight arrives in Caracas, claim your luggage at the carousel. After going through customs, follow the transit flight sign until you get to the national airport, and check in at the counter; it will take you about 10 minutes to go from the international flights area to the national one. Our driver is going to pick you up at the airport in El Vigía city and take you directly to your posada (a sort of inn) in Mérida (1h30- 2h).

On this trip, you’re going to visit Los Nevados, a picturesque andean village hidden among breathtaking high mountains. Walking around this unchanged 16th century village feels like you’re back in the Spanish colonial era. For this trip, pack the necessary items for 3 days, and make sure to leave some extra ones at your posada in Mérida. Our trip starts at 08:00AM in a 4X4 Toyota vehicle. Your guide is going to take you to the most beautiful and isolated Andean villages in the Andes. After 3 hours on a rough, unpaved road (60km) and several stops to watch the magnificent scenery, you'll finally reach Los Nevados village. Once there, your guide will be willing to take you for a walk or for ride on a mule around the village.

On this hike, you’ll be able to see the Andean páramos, one of the world’s most unique mountainous ecosystems. This place is very well-known for its exotic vegetation like the frailejón plant, for its beautiful views, and for its relatively low temperatures (18°C/-2°C). The hike starts at 07:30AM after a generous local breakfast. It’s a 4-hour ride on a mule to Alto de la Cruz, that is the highest point at 4,200 m. above sea level (The mules will carry your luggage up to this point); and then, a 3-hour walk up to your destination, a mountain hut at 2,600 m. Once there, your guide will cook something for you. It is important for you to know that altitude sickness might be an issue for some people. In this case, your guide must find you an easier path which will also be as astonishing and beautiful as the main one.

Your return to Tabay starts at around 08:30AM; however, this may be subject to change, depending on your decision or weather conditions. The small footpath goes downhill on an amazing four-hour walk through a lush and humid forest to your final destination. On your way back to town, your tour guide may suggest an hour detour in order to see some lovely glacial lakes. Once you’re back in Tabay, a driver will finally pick you up and take you to your posada in Mérida, the same location you stayed overnight for the first time.

On this trip, you are going to visit three fantastic places: Jají, a very well preserved Spanish colonial village; Las Cuevas del Pirata (The Pirate’s Caves), an enigmatic eco-tourist park with interesting caves; and finally, a settlement built out of stilts over Lake Maracaibo, the largest lake in South America. At the end of the day, you’ll also be able to observe the Catatumbo lightning, a unique natural phenomenon that has won the Guinness world record for having the highest number of lightning per square kilometer per year. Our trip starts at 08:00AM First, you and your guide will be driven to Jaji village. Here, you can find arts and crafts. Then, back on the curvy road, we’ll go through dense vegetation and spectacular waterfalls in the mountains, and after some lay-bys to enjoy the astonishing scenery, we'll get to the town of La Azulita. Once here, we will visit Las Cuevas del Pirata (the Pirate’s Cave), where it is believed that pirates of the Caribbean used to come into to take refuge. Afterwards, you can have lunch at a nearby traditional food restaurant. Later, you will be taken to Puerto Concha (02h 30min), where the boat departure point is (here, you’ll also be able to see monkeys and toucans). Next, you’ll continue your trip on a boat across the lake for about two hours, dolphins might be seen leaping and swimming alongside the boat. Finally, we’ll get to the stilt village near Congo Mirador. Once here, you’ll have to set up your hammock from where you might be able to see the Catatumbo lightning, a mysteRíous symphony of rapid-fire lightning bolts that create the greatest light show on Earth, more than 40,000 bolts ripping across the night sky as many as 180 nights a year for nine hours at a time.

The next stop is the village of Congo Mirador, an unusual place where the fire station, the church and the schools are built on stilts; students literally have to get in the water and make their way to their classrooms. We will leave at 08:00AM Once you get to Congo Mirador, you along with your guide can visit some streams, and watch numerous butterflies and birds species such as: herons and ospreys. Back on the motorboat, we’ll take you back to Puerto Concha, and after two hours of sailing, you’ll be able to have lunch at a small local restaurant at midday. Then, we’ll continue our trip all the way back to the valley of Mérida, taking a detour towards the Andean villages up in the mountains of Sierra Nevada National Park (a whole 5-hour trip, 250 km). The curvy, rough dirt road that takes us to the Andean villages gets narrower and narrower all the time until we finally reach the village of Los Nevados where you’ll stay overnight at an altitude of 2,500 m. above sea level!

We will start our morning in Los Nevados, a charming village that has remained almost unchanged since 1591. Along with your guide, you’ll be able to enjoy watching the magnificent Andean scenery and visit its surroundings on foot or by mule. The hospitality of its people and the incredible calm of this magical place are the two things you will love the most. Later, you’ll have lunch at 12:00PM; and finally, you have to take the local Transport and go all the way back to Mérida city (60km, 3h).

On this trip, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Los Llanos, a vast tropical grassland plain the size of Germany. Located between Colombia and Venezuela, this savannah is very well known for its important and unique biodiversity. Here, you will be able to see several species of birds such as: scarlet ibises, herons, savannah hawks, double-striped thick-knees, spectacled thrushes; wild reptiles such as: anacondas, spectacled caimans, gold tegus, iguanas; and the largest rodent in the world: the capybara. Our trip starts at 08:00AM from mérida. We will go over the mountains to Barinas, on a paved road that reaches the 3,500 m. at its highest point (134 km, 3h 30 min). We will feel how temperatures will start rising rapidly as we go getting closer to the foothills. Depending on time schedule and weather conditions, we will make several stops and a 1-hour hike around the mountain lakes and through the pine forests. After leaving the mountains behind, we we’ll make a stop to eat lunch at a traditional restaurant where we will try “Carne en vara” (Venezuelan-style grilled beef). Later, we will continue our trip towards Mantecal. From this point on, the climate will start changing gradually, and more and more abundant wildlife can be seen as we go deeper into the Savannah. (350km, 3h 30min). Once we get to Mantecal, you are going to stay overnight with a host family.

In this region, there is a large number of majestic wide slow rivers that are home to countless species of animals such as: red ibises, white and black storks (Jabiru), kingfishers, herons, eagles, turtles, dolphins and tapirs. So, after having breakfast, we will go for a safari boat ride on one of the most well preserved rivers of Los Llanos; you will be able to enjoy bird-watching, seeing dolphins and giant river otters, and photographing wildlife in general. After this pleasant activity, you will return to your camp for an outdoor meal. You will go on safari in a 4X4 vehicle in the afternoon. You can sit on the roof of the vehicle and enjoy a 360° panoramic view. This day ends with the capture of alligators and the observation of wild anteaters.

Horseback riding, searching for anacondas and fishing piranhas are three experiences you simply cannot miss this day. After breakfast, you'll be able to ride a horse and go even deeper into the savannah. Horseback riding is the best way to get closer enough to watch and photograph wild animals. It’s also possible to go walking in the Savannah if you wish. After finishing these activities, you will go back to your camp for an outdoor meal. The afternoon will be devoted to looking for anacondas and fishing piranhas you could eat for dinner!

We leave for Barinas at 8:00 a.m. (350km; 3h 30min). Once there, you’ll have lunch and depending on the day of the week, you'll be transferred to Barinas airport for you to take a direct flight to Caracas airport in the afternoon, or we can also arrange for a taxi to take you there (5-6h; 450km). At Caracas airport, walk up to the gate number 11 at the national flights area; once there, you’ve got to head to the international arrivals hall by following the arrows. Your driver will be waiting for you under the giant screen at the international arrivals hall. He’ll be holding up a sign with the word “Catimar - Hotel Villa Playa Grande”. If you do not find your driver immediately because there are too many people at the arrivals hall, don’t worry, many of the people who are holding up the hotel signs under the giant screen know what "Catimar-Hotel Villa Playa Grande” is, just show them a piece of paper with the name of that hotel on it, or say it out loud, so they can tell you who your driver is going to be. Once your driver has dropped you off at the hotel, you must notify the time of your flight departure at the front desk, so you may agree on the time your taxi will take you to the airport the next day.

On your way to Canaima, you’re going to have a 1-day stop-over in Ciudad Bolívar: a city that lies alongside the Orinoco River, and that is known for its well-preserved historic centre. You must check in for your flight to Puerto Ordaz at Caracas airport. Then, when you arrive in Puerto Ordaz, a driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to your Posada in Ciudad Bolívar (1h; 100km). Once you get there, we encourage you to visit the town centre in the afternoon by yourself (not included); and try some fresh fish in one of the small restaurants next to the fish market.

This day, we will visit Canaima National Park, one of the largest national parks in the planet, named a World Heritage Site by Unesco. It is renowned for being a natural reserve that has abrupt relief special and unique around the world, the tepuis, which are a kind of table-top mountain millions of years old, with vertical walls and almost flat tops. These constitute a unique biological environment and are also of great geological interest. Their sheer cliffs and waterfalls create spectacular landscapes. We leave the Posada at 07:00AM for a 15-minute drive to Ciudad Bolívar airport. Next, board your plane to Canaima. This flight takes 1 hour 15 min, and the luggage weight allowance is up to 10 kg per traveller. On your arrival in Canaima, you’ll be free the rest of the morning. Lunch will be served at your camp in Canaima. In the afternoon, we will go for a boat ride across the Canaima Lake and see the Ucaima, Wadaima and Hacha waterfalls (option not included). Then, we can visit Anatoly Island, and walk to La Playita (small beach) where you can go swimming and discover the Sapo and Sapito waterfalls. Besides, you can go swimming in the pool under the waterfalls. Length of visit: about 2h (1h walking).

Angel Falls is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 979 metres (3,212 ft.). The falls are along a fork of the Río Kerepacupai Meru which flows into the Churun River, a tributary of the Carrao River, itself a tributary of the Orinoco River. In the morning, you’ll be transferred to the little port of Ucaima. Once here, we will go for a four hour boat ride on the Carrao and Churrun rivers (excursion by boat 24h to Angel Fall is an option not included). We will pass by the Ratón Island, and continue all the way to the area around the Angel Falls. Finally, when we start going through the rapids, you may be asked to disembark.

We will have to leave camp in the early morning and walk for 1h 30 min in order to arrive at the foot of the highest waterfall in the world and see it at sunrise! Caution: You will have to be aware of the roots and other obstacles that are difficult to see on the path at that time of day. Note: We could walk to the Angel Falls the day before at the end of the afternoon only if you reached the base camp early enough. After visiting the falls, we will walk through the Woods back to the base camp. Then, we will take a 4-hour boat ride back to Canaima Lake. Next, you will flight back to Ciudad Bolívar at the end of the morning or at the beginning of the afternoon, and finally be transferred to your posada in Ciudad Bolívar.

The Orinoco Delta is one of the eight natural regions of Venezuela. It is fan-shaped, and it’s formed by the Orinoco River as it splits into numerous distributaries, called caños, which meander through the delta on their way to the sea. The delta includes large areas of permanent wetlands as well as seasonally-flooded freshwater swamp forests. The river margins of the delta are fringed with mangroves. Today, we leave Ciudad Bolívar at 07:00AM and head towards San José de Buja that is 3 hour and a half by car (250 Km). Real fun kicks off with a 1-hour boat ride through the channels of the delta until we reach our camp. At this surprising and cosy camp, you’ll have the experience of sleeping in an individual room in the heart of a mangrove, and eat a buffet lunch. During the afternoon, you’ll be able to canoe through the channels, accompanied by local guides that will teach you some Waraos traditions. Dolphins, butterflies, and parrots observation is also planned, as well as a snack on the boat while watching the sunset.

In the morning, we’ll put on our rubber boots and leave camp after breakfast in order to visit the mangrove forest with your local guide. This will be a unique experience in which you’ll learn how the indigenous people manage to live in such a hostile environment. We will go back to camp for a well-deserved meal before we begin the piranha fishing adventure, having the chance to eat the fish for dinner.

In today’s excursion we will visit a Waraos community. Here you will realise the difference between our modern world and the traditional life of this indigenous people. With the help of your guide, you’ll be able to understand the positive and negative impact of the interactions between our world and theirs. During this visit, you can also get some indigenous handcrafted products and also learn how to make them by yourself. Once we leave this community, we will return to San José de Buja in the afternoon. Then, you’ll be transferred to Mochima National Park by car (300Km, 04h30). Your posada will be just on the waterfront.

Mochima National Park is a coastal and mountainous zone with an exclusively marine area, sandy beaches, spectacular gulfs and inlets of extraordinary beauty. These will be free days for you to discover deserted islands, pods of dolphins and a large number of different types of sea birds. With the help of the staff at your posada, you’ll be able to arrange everyday excursions, and other activities such as: snorkelling at a well-preserved coral reef (not included in the price). In addition, they will be willing to prepare you a delicious fresh-caught fish on the grill. Extra programs as those mentioned above will involve an additional cost of 30Euros/day.

These two days, you will visit the Choroní beach, considered one of the best beaches in Venezuela. There, you’ll find the fun and relaxation you need.
